Marie-Joseph SANSON
Marie-Joseph Sanson was a French executioner who lived from 1736 to 1806. He was the son of Charles-Henri Sanson, who was also an executioner. Marie-Joseph inherited his father's job and became the official executioner of Paris. He was responsible for executing thousands of people, including King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.
Despite his grisly job, Marie-Joseph was known for being a kind and gentle man. He was also very intelligent and well-educated. He wrote several books about his experiences as an executioner, and he was a regular contributor to the newspaper Le Moniteur.
